its pretty upsetting for me to see people automatically side with “spend time with your SO” over “use your freetime for a video game” for the sole reason that “spending time with your SO is more important than your alone time”

yes, ok, your boyfriend/girlfriend/etc is obviously important!!! but if you told them in advance that you were taking a few days off work for a video game launch or whatever else and youve told them (repeatedly!) how excited you are for it, and they still schedule something else over that despite everything you told them, then that shit ain’t healthy. theyre putting their desires over something they know you want to do and have told them about.

how do people not get this

this this THIS. Especially that one quote, “spending time with your SO is more important than your alone time”.

No, it isn’t. Let me repeat that: No, it isn’t. Is it important? Yes. Is having time to yourself important? YES.

It all comes down to mutual respect. You and your SO should respect each other’s desire for company, desire to spend time with your other friends, AND desire to spend time alone.

It is just as bad to constantly force your SO away from their single-person hobbies, such as video games, as it is to constantly refuse to spend time with your SO, or to constantly force your SO away from spending time with his/her friends.

THESE ARE ALL BAD THINGS.
